Atelier Artisanal Commission
Your Bespoke Commission
For those who want something truly singular.
A gem created for you alone—or for someone you love.
This is an opportunity to go beyond choosing from what already exists. Together, we begin with an idea, a material, or sometimes simply a possibility, and develop it into something that is entirely yours.
This is where a gem becomes personal.
How It Works
Every bespoke commission begins with a conversation.
I want to understand what you are looking for—your vision, your story, and what you want this gem to become. You may already have a clear idea in mind, or you may simply know that you want something unlike anything you have seen before. Either is a perfectly good place to begin.
These commissions are for those who want a truly individual experience and a meaningful voice in the creative process.
Because each project is unique, I carefully consider every commission before accepting it. I cannot take every project, but when I do, we will discuss the design, material, scope of the work, and all associated fees before anything begins.
The price you are quoted is the price you pay. No surprises.
I typically accept only one bespoke commission per month, allowing me to give each project the time, attention, and consideration it deserves.
Choosing Your Material
Natural Stone
Start with what nature gives us.
Every natural gemstone is the result of extraordinary geological processes, formed over immense periods of time. I work with a wide range of natural colored gemstones, selecting material for its individual character and its potential to become an exceptional finished stone.
You may provide your own rough, or I can source material based on your preferences, the type of gem you are looking for, and the goals of the commission.
Every piece of rough is different. The material, availability, size, quality, and complexity of the design all influence the final cost.
Let's begin with a conversation about what you have in mind.
Lab-Created
Then there is what becomes possible when we look beyond what nature provides.
Lab-created materials offer an extraordinary range of creative possibilities. Some closely reproduce materials found in nature. Others are rare and highly unusual crystals capable of producing optical and physical effects that can be exceptionally difficult—or even impossible—to encounter in natural gemstones.
This isn't about replacing what nature creates. It's about exploring what becomes possible when we push its limits.
The material itself, its quality, size, rarity, optical properties, and the complexity of the design all influence the scope and cost of a commission.
Let's talk about what might be possible.
Heirloom & Rare
Working with rare, historically significant, or personally meaningful material is among the most demanding work I undertake.
This is particularly true of previously cut gemstones. Unlike starting with rough material, recutting an existing stone often presents significant limitations and risks. The condition of the stone, its existing shape, internal characteristics, and the amount of material available all become part of the challenge.
Before I accept any Heirloom & Rare commission, we will have a thorough discussion about the material and, most importantly, what you hope to achieve.
I want to understand what the stone means to you before I ever take possession of it for assessment.
These are highly individualized and technically demanding projects. Pricing generally begins around $3,000 and may range to $12,000 or more, depending on the rarity, condition, value, complexity, and inherent challenges of the material.
A Note on Heirloom & Rare Commissions
Working with irreplaceable material carries inherent risk.
Before any cutting begins, I conduct a careful assessment of the stone and discuss its condition, limitations, and the potential risks involved. There are circumstances in which I may determine that a material cannot be responsibly accepted for cutting.
My commitment is to be completely upfront and honest with you before we proceed.
Once the assessment is complete and the project is accepted, you will receive a final quote for the work. That quote will not change once cutting begins.
Because of the nature of working with client-supplied and potentially irreplaceable material, all Heirloom & Rare commissions become final once cutting begins.
Begin the Conversation
Every extraordinary stone begins somewhere.
Tell me what you have in mind. You do not need to know exactly what you want yet—that is part of the process.
